Pododermatitis (Bumblefoot): Diagnosis, Treatment, and Resolution by J. Miesle
We are pleased to announce that the publication on pododermatitis in companion birds has been updated.
Pododermatitis, commonly known as “bumblefoot,” is frequently seen in companion and aviary birds. Pododermatitis is a general term for any inflammatory or degenerative condition of the avian foot. Very often, birds will come into the clinician’s office for a routine annual examination, and the feet will show signs of subclinical or even more serious disease. The condition may range from very mild redness or swelling to chronic, deep-seated abscesses and bone destruction. If caught early, the underlying, predisposing factors may be corrected, and the disease will often be reversed.
